Founded in 1997, the King Hussein Cancer Center is a nongovernmental, not-for-profit institution dedicated entirely to cancer care and is the only comprehensive cancer center in Jordan that treats both adults and pediatric patients. With a capacity of 148 beds, the center currently treats more than 2,300 new patients a year, representing approximately 70 percent of all cancer cases in Jordan. In February 2006, the King Hussein Cancer Center achieved international accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, becoming the only hospital in Jordan, and only the fourth in the region, to receive this distinction.
